Reset Avigilon ACC Server Password

Jun 8, 2020 by Ulrich Leave a Comment

Two Reasons You May Need to Reset the ACC Server Password

  1. Nobody remembers the ACC administrator password, preventing system changes and camera additions – so you require a permanent reset.
  2. You are the integrator on-site and no one is available to provide a password right now, but you will need to restore old passwords later – you require a temporary reset.

The procedure is the same for ACC 5, ACC 6, and ACC 7.

Permanent Reset

Both procedures are near identical. Be advised that a permanent password reset will not only reset the administrator account’s password, but all other users for the site will be lost.

The first step is stopping the ACC Server. There are two ways to do this and both methods achieve exactly the same thing:

Method 1: Stop the ACC Server via the Avigilon Control Center Admin Tool

Open the Avigilon Control Center Admin Tool and click Shut Down. A shortcut should be on the Desktop, but you may also search for it from within the Windows Start Menu.

The Admin Tool looks similar across versions 5 to 7 of ACC

Wait for the server to shut down completely. It may take a minute or two.

Method 2: Stop the ACC Server via the Windows Services Window

Use Win+R to open the Windows Run Window and type services.msc and click OK.

Windows Run

This will open up a Window containing all services currently running on the server. Locate the service called Avigilon Control Center.

Hint: You can click on any service and type “A” with the keyboard until you find it.

Click “Stop the service” and wait for the service to stop.

Locate the Users folder within AvigilonConfig

Navigate to C:\AvigilonConfig\Db\DirectoryShared. At the bottom there will be a folder called “Users”. Delete it.

Now start up the Avigilon Control Center service again using any of the methods above.

You will now be able to log in using the default login details:

User name: administrator
Password: [none]

What happens in the background: When the ACC server starts up again it automatically creates a new “Users” directory if one does not exist already.

Temporary Reset

Follow all steps as above apart from the last part. Instead of deleting the “Users” directory, just rename it to “Users.old” and restart the Avigilon Control Center Server.

Rename Users Directory

When you are done making modifications to the site, stop the service again, delete the newly created “Users” directory and rename the “Users.old” directory to “Users”.

Now start up the service again and all original user details will be restored.
