Upgrade Procedure for ACC 5 or ACC 6 to ACC 7

June 5, 2020 by Ulrich Leave a Comment

ACC 7

Learn how to upgrade Avigilon ACC by following this guide.

What you need to know before ordering upgrade licenses

System Requirements

ACC 7 is not supported on Windows 7. You will require at least Windows 8.1, but Windows 10 or Server 2016 is recommended.

Contact your sales representative for upgrade options to older machines running Windows 7.

You will also require Microsoft .NET 4.6.2.

Check full system requirements.

ACC 5

In ACC 5 every individual NVR is licensed separately regardless of how the site is set up – grouped or not. You will need to order the license keys accordingly – matching the channel quantities on every NVR.

VERY IMPORTANT: If you are running version 5.4, make sure to upgrade to version 5.6.2.28 first. Thereafter upgrade to the latest version of ACC 5 (5.10.26.0).

Note: It is not possible to upgrade partially. The upgrade license purchased must match the current channel count exactly.

ACC 6

Make sure to order the exact amount of licenses required for the site. If you have multiple sites, meaning several servers not grouped into one site, you need to order separate license keys for each site. For example:

  • Site A – 73 Channels
    • Server 1
    • Server 2
  • Site B – 27 Channels
    • Server 1

The above example would require a key for 73 upgrade licenses and another separate key for 27 upgrade licenses. As with ACC 5, the upgrade license purchased must match the current channel count.

Upgrade to the latest version of ACC 6 before upgrading to ACC 7.

Now Make a Backup

After you have obtained all the relevant information and you have purchased your upgrade keys it is time to make backups of your current site configuration and license keys.

The backups are merely in case anything goes wrong, but can be used later to restore settings on another machine entirely.

License Key Backup

In ACC 5 the license keys are on each respective NVR and can be found under the Avigilon Control Center Admin Tool > Settings > Licensing.

From ACC 6 the licensing can be found within the Avigilon Control Center client when logged in with administrative privileges. Site Setup > Site Name > License Management

Simply click Disable / Deactivate License and copy the license keys to clipboard, then click cancel – you will not deactivate the licenses.

Then save to a text file and transfer to USB.

Site Configuration Backup

Save the backup file directly to USB or to the desktop and transfer to USB later.

The file will contain the NVR name and ACC version number.

System Bug Report

Retrieve the system bug report from within ACC client by clicking the cogwheel to the top right of the screen generate the report. Save to USB.

AvigilonConfig Backup

The AvigilonConfig folder can be found at the root of the server’s C: drive. Simply copy the entire folder safely onto a removable storage device

AvigilonConfig Backup

This folder contains not only site configuration settings, but original licensing can be extracted by Avigilon support as a last resort.

Occasionally this folder is found on the recording storage drive.

Finally the Upgrade

Method 1: Run the ACC 7 Server Setup File

Simply run your newly downloaded ACC 7 Server setup file and follow the prompts. Note the warning message before installation starts:

ACC 7 Upgrade Warning Message
ACC 7 Warning Message

Method 2: Use the Site Upgrade Feature Within ACC Client

Navigate to Site Setup > Site Name > Site Upgrade

Site Upgrade

From here you will be presented with the option to upgrade one or multiple NVRs at once. If you intend to upgrade multiple NVRs at once, first make sure they are all already on the latest version of ACC 5 or ACC 6.

Simply browse to the latest version of ACC you wish to upgrade to and apply. Your site will be unusable for a while until the installer has been pushed to all NVRs and the upgrade has completed.

Site Upgrade Menu

After all the NVRs have been upgraded, client machines connected on the network will be prompted to upgrade. You can safely click upgrade. Occasionally the upgrade will fail, in which case you can manually install the latest ACC Client software on the client machines.

Apply Upgrade Keys

You will receive notification the next time you log in that some licenses need to be upgraded. Free license upgrades are applicable in the following scenarios:

  • ACC 6 channel licenses purchased after Nov. 15, 2018, through Dec. 31, 2019
  • ACC 5-to-6 version upgrade licenses purchased after Oct. 4, 2018 through Dec. 31, 2019

If a free upgrade does not apply to you, then use your upgrade key.

Make Backups Again

Yes. Repeat the whole backup process so you have up an to date backup of everything you may need on-site and keep a good record of it.
